forward February 17.forward February 17, 2006, one of the pivotal pioneers of salsa and Latin jazz passed. We at Latin Beat Magazine had featured Ray Barretto centurys of times in articles in succession salsa and jazz, and his expressive features as he played congas had graced our masks at least twice in 15 years. He was herculean in South America and earnestly has been written about him in the North American pres through writers who recognize a great talent, and for that we are grateful. The island of Puerto Rico gave this musician's musician a sendoff like no other place in the world, although he exhausted most of his years in recent York City. We dedicate this special Latin Jazz Issue to the celebration of Ray's life and all the miraculous rhythms he created, beginning with a piece of poetry written by Charlie Rosario and continuing with make comments [i]or[/i] remarkss from our writers and other musicians.
